re-union… a celebration of belonging
In nature, differentiation is part of growth and development. Most humans, with each passing year, will outgrow something – identities, friendships, locations, tastes, clothing sometimes even our phone! It is no surprise that the modern world pushes us to continually change – to update, upgrade, move on and not look back.
Amidst this incessant pace, do you ever find yourself enjoying the company of an old friend, re-discovering an old pair of shoes, visiting a favourite hangout, or dancing in the car when a song comes on the radio that reminds you of “that time when…”.
This is more than reminiscence. This is re-union. We may not know it, but part of us is being brought together again as a unified and interconnected whole.
We all come from somewhere, some root, some place, lineage or ancestry. For us, as organisers of the ‘Both Sides Now workshop with Kathy and Lori, part of the delight in producing our dear teachers in Melbourne was to gather a group of dancing folk who simply don’t get to see each other as much as they used to…
So in their absence, we step into the place of simply offering space that calls in the spirit of reunion.
We will dance, celebrate and share our common language, make art, tell stories. All the while, we will foster and relish the chance we all have to belong to this diverse dancing community, celebrating the precious time we have together.
